Jenny Laidlaw is an artist and illustrator living and working full time from her studio on the coast of Victoria. Jenny's love of art began at an early age and she has been drawing for as long as she can remember. She studied a Bachelor of Visual Arts at the Canberra Institute of The Arts, Australian National University and was then accepted into a Bachelor of Arts - Honours, Fine Art at Latrobe University College of Northern Victoria. Since beginning her artistic journey, she has worked on many different projects - illustrations for books and magazines, large scale murals, posters, fine art prints, logos, clothing designs and artwork for toys.
Jenny has a colourful, vibrant, detailed and sometimes quirky and whimsical style that translates well across many different categories. With her attention to detail, the bright bold colours bring with them a children's agenda, but the quality in the often meticulous detail goes far beyond what is generally created for children. Jenny has a strong emotional connection with every illustration she creates and she lovingly and passionately dedicates time and effort into every single piece.
Her mission is to share her imagery and stir the imaginations of children and adults alike.
As well as illustration, Jenny also exhibits original artworks and has had many solo and group exhibitions and has been awarded numerous Art Prizes and Awards.
Jenny won a Highly Commended award at the 2108 Illustrators Australia Awards with her illustration, The Breaker at the Stern. This artwork also won Highly Commended and the Peoples Choice Awards at the 2018 Australian Maritime Art Awards.
Jenny enjoys working in watercolour, pen and ink and pencil. When she is not drawing, or mentally planning her next drawing, Jenny is getting inspiration for her drawings whilst hiking and camping in the mountains.
