Extraordinary Talent
This month we pay tribute to our extraordinarily talented artist and professional member, Eddy Sara, who tragically passed away at the age of 43, on 11th July. He will be remembered by this community and live on through his artwork.

I only became aware of his work when doing our reels over the Membership Drive, work I found deeply impressive. I learned more about him and was deeply moved. The artwork of Eddy Sara includes paintings, illustration, graphic novels, printmaking, murals and sculptures.
Eddy's art and illustration career flourished even as he navigated life with chronic pain, after many years of treatment, operations, misdiagnosis and medical issues since the age of 25. Sometimes his work related to this, sometimes inspired by it, or in defiance of it.
His artwork is deeply philosophical as well as highly skilful, cool and beautiful, unique and original. I see influences from Albrecht Dürer to Japanese Manga, Tattoo art to Tintin, Tribal art to 1950s film posters.
Eddy explored a range of art making methods, mediums and styles.
Over his full life and career he held many exhibitions, he painted many murals, published books, created beautiful illustrations and branding for businesses, participated in the Banyule Open Studios and much more. He addressed issues of mental health, the natural world and equity with humour and compassion. He was a humble yet profoundly talented man and his artwork remains an inspiration.
Eddy Sara was a great exemplifier of the very best of our talented creative community. It is our honour to have Eddy Sara as part of our community and membership.
