I began my career 26 years ago designing licenced characters and creating style guides for ABC Childrens television department. After 10 years of following strict guidelines pertaining to design I chose to be a freelancer and create a style of art that gave me more freedom. The genre I found myself most drawn to at the time was fantasy/mythical, designing fairies ,dragons and angels for various products and publications.
I wanted to advance my skills into a finer art style so I focused on portrait art and was a finalist in the 2014 Archibald Prize yet my greatest love is with animals. At present I feel I've come full circle since the beginning of my career by combining the experience of designing for children with my skills of fine art . My style has taken on an element of the Magic Realism genre in which I'm combining realistic animals in situations of unusual surroundings or circumstances with a magical feel to it.
I have experience with illustration work for childrens books in the form of oils, acrylic, watercolour , ink and graphic created works but my preferred medium is paint.
I am very passionate about my work and create very quickly which is a huge bonus in this busy world of deadlines and urgency. I actually thrive with a deadline and purpose.
